Update for #Tame: Tweaking the Algorithm

written by Torsten

Thanks to the feedback coming from our beta testers, we constantly improve Tame and work on new features. Maybe some of you might have noticed our first update: the scores we put in brackets next to each item in our top 10 rankings are by average smaller than they were before. Why? Prior to the update we used to count how often a tweep was mentioned or a specific link was shared overall. But sometimes we were not satisfied with the rankings, since a few very active accounts regularly sent out multiple tweets with the same link or mention, which led to an over-representation of those accounts. We decided to slightly change the algorithm. Now the scores next to each result show how many different accounts a tweep was mentioned or a specific link was shared. Counting multiple tweets of the same profile only once effectively helps to prevent spam and adjusting less active profiles with more active ones. We think the results are now more balanced with regard to relevance since a single account can’t have such a big influence anymore.
